About NE_Bellydance

This is a community for sharing info related to bellydance happenings in New England, whether cabaret, tribal, folkloric, gothic, or some other style that doesn't fit into a standard category.

This community is overseen by firefly124. I'm hoping to leave it pretty much open-access, but if there are any problems with spam, etc., I'll go to the next level where I have to approve members before they join.

I'm in CT, so most of the happenings I'm likely to post will be Southern New England, and primarily CT and RI. I hope others will post plenty from all six states, so that we have a good resource here.

Finding Things

If you are looking for teachers, troupes, venues, or other "permanent" type listings that may have been posted, you may find them in the community memories.

If you are looking for more "time-sensitive" listings, like events within a certain region, or a certain type of event such as a workshop or hafla, then you may find the following tag-based* URL's helpful.

By state
Connecticut: http://community.livejournal.com/ne_bellydance/tag/ct
Maine: http://community.livejournal.com/ne_bellydance/tag/me
Massachusetts: http://community.livejournal.com/ne_bellydance/tag/ma
New Hampshire: http://community.livejournal.com/ne_bellydance/tag/nh
Rhode Island: http://community.livejournal.com/ne_bellydance/tag/ri
Vermont: http://community.livejournal.com/ne_bellydance/tag/vt

By type of event
Events (probably the broadest tag used): http://community.livejournal.com/ne_bellydance/tag/events
Gala: http://community.livejournal.com/ne_bellydance/tag/gala
Hafla: http://community.livejournal.com/ne_bellydance/tag/hafla
Performance: http://community.livejournal.com/ne_bellydance/tag/performance
Workshop: http://community.livejournal.com/ne_bellydance/tag/workshop

There are other tags used, as well, such as performer and troupe names, dance styles, dance props being taught in workshops, and instruments. If you want, you can try taking the basic url "http://community.livejournal.com/ne_bellydance/tag/" and adding the name of a particular performer, troupe, style, or prop, (for example, you might try "http://community.livejournal.com/ne_bellydance/tag/veil" if you wanted to see if there were any veil workshops or classes listed) and see if anything comes up. Otherwise, the broader categories listed should cover most things.

And, of course, ask! Just because something hasn't gotten posted, or perhaps never got tagged or stuck into memories, doesn't mean someone in the community might not know about a particular type of teacher, or workshop, or whatever it is you are looking for.
