Inspired by America’s fascination with Egypt and Egyptian adaptations of Hollywood

style and western music, Snake Dance Theater Company shares a mélange of dances

from the 1890s to the 1950s. After the discovery of King Tut’s tomb in the early 20th

century, America and Hollywood took notice of Egyptian culture and music. From the

art deco craze to the silver screen, Egyptian icons were everywhere. And as Hollywood

movies spread, Egypt began producing its own films, blending American culture with its

own.

Egyptomania explores the cultural appropriations between these two nations and

beyond. We welcome you to delight in a world in which tradition, music and dance

blend to create a fascinating fusion of beauty, intrigue, fun and—of course—flappers!

Join us for sequin-studded performances by some of New England’s most acclaimed

soloists and companies from the world of Middle Eastern and Tribal Fusion belly dance

along with live Middle Eastern music by Club Mediterranean.

Featuring: Johara & Snake Dance Theater; Naraya of Vadalna Tribal Belly Dance, Bevin Victoria of Hybrid Belly Dance, Dan Yonah Ben-Dror Marshall, Tamsyn Bindal, and more.

The Bantwana Initiative, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of families affected by HIV, AIDS and poverty in Africa.
